In order to improve the user experience of all AetherNet uncapped customers, AetherNet applies a policy that is fair to all users on the network.  We would like to share the following information with you in order to assist in managing your uncapped experience and ensuring that you are not adversely impacted.

What is the Fair Usage Policy?

In terms of the AetherNet AUP, AetherNet reserves the right to apply restrictions on an uncapped account if a customer's behaviour is deemed to be affecting the user experience of other customers on the AetherNet network. Examples of customer behaviour which may compromise AetherNet's network performance include, amongst other, causing congestion, running excessive concurrent internet sessions or accessing excessive bandwidth intensive protocols such as peer-to-peer or torrenting. Restrictions which may be applied by AetherNet in terms of the AetherNet FUP include, but are not limited to, throttling a customer's throughput speeds and/or shaping a customer's bandwidth to limit the use of bandwidth intensive protocols and applications.

Watching TV shows or movies on services such as Netflix uses about 1 GB of data per hour for each stream of standard definition video, and up to 3 GB per hour for each stream of HD video. Downloading and streaming consume a similar amount of data. If you are concerned with data caps or bandwidth limits, you should adjust your data usage settings.

FUP levels explained

The FUP is dynamic and customers that reach the FUP levels, will be throttled during specific peak traffic times to stabilise the network, if required, or continuously, depending on whether the facility was abused. What does throttling mean? Throttling allows internet browsing, but at a reduced speed. Please be advised that each uncapped product has allocated FUP threshold parameters.

FUP level 1

Customers that reach 50% of the FUP allocation* will be throttled to 50% of their package speed.

FUP level 2

Customers that reach 75% of the FUP allocation* will be throttled to 25% of their package speed.

FUP level 3

Customers that reach 100% of the FUP allocation* will be throttled to 10% of their package speed.

We trust that the information will assist with the understanding of the AetherNet Uncapped FUP in order to maximise your uncapped experience. Do not hesitate to contact us should you require further information. We value your continuous support.

*FUP allocations are dependant of package class, and speed.
